ดัมเบิลดอร์ได้ดึงตัวแฮร์รี่จากสถานีรถไฟเซอร์ไบตันแถบชานเมืองเพื่อเดินทางไปเชื้อเชิญให้ฮอเรซ ซลักฮอร์น อดีตอาจารย์สอนวิชาปรุงยาของโรงเรียนฮอกวอตส์กลับมาสอนอีกครั้ง แต่พอทั้งคู่เดินทางไปถึงกลับพบว่าข้าวของในบ้านถูกทำลายเสียหาย ภายหลังจึงรู้ว่าเป็นฝึมือตบตาของซลักฮอร์นเอง ในตอนแรกนั้นซลักฮอร์นยังยืนยันที่จะไม่กลับ แต่เมื่อได้คุยกับแฮร์รี่เป็นเวลาสั้นๆ ในที่สุดซลักฮอร์นก็ยอมกลับไปสอน เพราะเชื่อว่าตนจะปลอดภัยกว่าเมื่ออยู่ที่ฮอกวอตส์
